Widow Maker - The city lay shrouded in the distance, looming like a fragile virgin clothed in white. The year was 2785.  Vincent’s keen eyesight cut through the fog, singeing over the towering steel buildings like a guided laser.  He was searching for something lost, something that he would probably never reclaim.  continue

The Haunted House - "Over here, I tell you!  The coffin is over here!"  Mona rolled her eyes up at Frank. Idiot. He was acting if he'd found the secret entrance in the wall rather than her. She had a good mind to turn back and let Frank stand his chances of being sacrificed by the coven of she-male vampires that inhabited the dungeon of the castle. . . . continue

Vampire Beauty is Only Skin Deep - A Short Vampire Story

ACT III

The curtain of evening fell swiftly, finding Brad and Barb planted outside of The Fox & the Hound a half hour before opening.

The door to the shop creaked open after his second wrap, but the opening was filled with darkness, as if the door had opened on its own.  Barb unconsciously latched onto to Brad’s arm and together they entered the dark path leading into the shop.

Zelda was busy at her makeup station, frizzing her already frizzy hair to even higher dimensions.

Brad opened his mouth to speak, but she immediately silenced him by speaking first.

Zelda’s accent was thick and unvarnished as she told the young couple, “You want to know if I’m a vampire.”

She paused her frizzing, set aside her comb, then looked at them a moment, a bit like a cat sizing up two small mice.

Barb could hear her heart pulsating in her ears.  God, Brad was right about her!  It was totally evident at this moment – Zelda’s dead pallor, the over-pointy incisors, the lack of mirrors.  They were certainly doomed!  Why hadn’t she taken his suspicions seriously?

Brad studied Zelda with an equal intensity, not a frightened bone in his body.  Everything was suddenly crystallized before him, and Zelda’s next words confirmed his new discovery.

She told them, “Oh yes, you’ve locked in on my game.  But, don’t fear, children, for no harm will come to you.”

“I think I get it….the trade off,” Brad echoed, his voice seeming miles away to Barb’s flared ears.  “A little blood in exchange for your miracles, right?”

Zelda nodded.  “I was a misfit, sort of like the white sheep in my coven.  I couldn’t kill to save myself.  So,” she sighed, sounding very tired and old for one that appeared so young,

“I came here and tried to start a new life.  I suppose that I’ll need to leave, to start over.”

“Zelda!  There’s no need for you to pull up stakes,” Brad told her, going to collect one of her fragile hands, leaving Barb standing there, mouth agape.

“Please, Brad….not that word,” Zelda pleaded.

Brad drew his brows together in confusion, then recollected ‘the’ word; stakes.  That would be a very painful word for a vampire to hear, he supposed.

“Sorry, Zelda,” he smiled.  “But I meant what I said; you don’t need to leave.  Your secret is safe with us, right Barb?”

Barb shook her head, trying to dislodge the cobwebs.  She looked at Brad’s hopeful face, then at Zelda’s lost-looking one.  Something touched her, deep from within, and she made her way over to join them, taking Zelda’s free hand.

“Brad is right, Zelda,” she assured her and Zelda beamed a smile.  “Beauty is only skin deep,” to which they all shared...

The Vampire & The Cowboy - He had ridden so far, so long, that Jack's thighs still smelled of smoked leather from the saddle that sat astride his twenty-year old mare, Ladonya.  And the horse wasn't happy about the extended ride.  She had been blowing through her nostrils at him for the last ten minutes, the last gust a gnat's ass from Jack's ear.  continue

Vampire For Hire - It wasn’t easy, obtaining a decent night job.  In the first place, not many businesses were willing to do interviews for the night slots during the late evening hours, after the sun went down.  Being a vampire, that was the only time when Jase could face the world – during the dark of night, that is.  continue
